E., military division, and U.S. Legion of Merit. © 1946-47 — Harmsworth Professor of American history, Oxford, England. © 1947-48 — Assistant to the executive Secretary of the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe. © 1949 — Pitt Professor of American History, Cambridge, England. @ 1950-61 — Professor of Economic history, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
© 1961-66 — Councillor of the U.S Department of State and chair man of the department’s Policj Planning Council. © 1964-66 — U.S. member of the Inter-American Committee or the Alliance for Progress, with the rank of Ambassador. © 1966-69 — Special assistant for National Security Affairs tc President Johnson; awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom (with distinction). © 1969-today — Rex G. Baker Jr. Professor of political economy, University of Texas. Professor Rostow has written more than 20 books; perhaps the one that brought him most renown was: “The Stages of Economic Growth” (1960). In October will be published his latest book which deals with Asian regional co-opera-tion, and with economic organisation in the Pacific Basin.
