Rakaia plan approval sought

The first section of the Rakaia River draft management plan will be put before the North Canterbury Catchment Board for approval on Friday. The board’s resources planning manager, Mr R. W. Cathcart, said yesterday that the draft would outline the board’s objectives and their effect in the management of the Rakaia River. The second part of the draft would be considered by the board at a special meeting on August 19, he said. Because the board would be making decisions and recommendations on how water from the river should be used, this meeting would be closed to the public.

“As the submissions on the resource survey close on August 24, we do not want to affect public thinking, so that part of the plan will not be published until after that date,” said Mr Cathcart.
