Sponsorship for C.J.C.

A substantial sponsorship from Lion Breweries, Ltd, has been received by the Canterbury’ Jockey Club. Although the sponsorship is aimed at assisting the club, on-course patrons will also find the promotion entertaining and rewarding. This was announced last evening by Lion’s Christchurch manager, Mr J. A. Williamson, at a function with C.J.C. officials. Because of the competitive nature of liquor marketing in Canterbury no monetary figures were given regarding the amount of the sponsorship but Mr Williamson did say that the deal was well into five figures and would be the largest sponsorship enjoyed by the club.

Mr Williamson said that the matter had been under discussion with the C.J.C. for some time and he was particularly pleased with the friendly co-operative manner in which the discussions had been held. As well as heavy support for stake money, starting with the Grand National meeting, there will be considerable sums spent on oncourse promotions and rewards for patrons. The on-course promotions will be broken into five major racing periods during the year. Prizes for patrons will vary’ from brewery products to fares and accommodation for winners to visit North Island premier events.
