Royal flush
A controversial series of paintings has been produced in Germany. The works of the 41-year-old West German Academic painter Mathias Waske, they depict members of the British Royal Family in humorous situations. They show a horse nibbling at the Queen’s hat during an official occasion; Prince Charles falling off a horse, much to the delight of Mark Phillips; and a spectacular painting of Prince Charles driving his polo ponies in a Rolls-Royce. The paintings were on public display for the first time at the, International Polo Tournament held near Munich, an event ironically attended by Mark Phillips. Authorities insist that the paintings are in good taste and not designed to give offence to the British Royals.
