Prince Majestic given 58kg in spring cups

Prince Majestic is the top rated New Zealand stayer in the weights for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups declared yesterday. The Ta-kanini-trained six-year-old has been alloted 58kg in both races. Gurner’s Lane, winner of both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups last year, and Kingston Town, which ran him close in the metric twomiler at Flemington, have been given 60kg and 59.5 kg respectively in the Melbourne Cup this year but both share the top spot with 60kg in the Caulfield Cup. The only other New Zealand stayer, beside Prince Majestic, rated in the first 10 for the Melbourne Cup is Fountaincourt. He has been given 55.5 kg in that race and 56kg in the Caulfield Cup. Commissionaire, which has been entered for the Caulfield Cup only, comes in with 56.5 kg, the same as Trissaro and Velosa and o.skg less than Strawberry Road.
