Route to dump
Sir,—We wish to congratulate the Marshland-Burwood residents on their protest over the proposed route to the proposed rubbish dump at Waimairi Beach. This is a typical case of the Rubbish Disposal Committee trying to ride roughshod over the wishes of the ratepayers vitally concerned. These bureaucrats have cost the public many thousands of dollars with the town planning hearings, with more to follow. Now they intend to waste another $2,000,000 on an access road through the Burwood Plantation. When will they ever learn? If the suggested site at Chaneys Corner had been adopted, the Johns Road and Bexley tips would now be closed. This site was not considered by the consulting engineers, but, when it was pointed out to them, they agreed that it was quite suitable. Western traffic would mainly by-pass the built-up areas, instead of travelling right through residential areas. Arterial roads are already formed to Chaneys, therefore making the wastage of $2,000,000 unnecessary.—Yours, etc., 4 O. J. INNES, Secretary, North New Brighton Residents’ Association.
