Omarama
The township of Omarama has grown up at the junction of the roads that traverse the Mackenzie Country. The highway from Camara and the Waitaki hydro lakes, the Lindis road from Queenstown and Central Otago and the road from Tekapo and Geraldine converge on Omarama, giving rise to its popularity as a comfort stop or an overnight accommodation
centre. In winter Omarama attracts skiers: both the Lake Ohau ski field and the Tekapo field are within easy driving distance and many people prefer the comfort and hospitality the town provides. From a sightseeing point of view, Omarama is an equally good base from which to make trips into the surrounding country.
