U.S. sire for Ashburton stud
Bill’s Brother, the fastest son of Meadow Skipper to be imported to New Zealand with a mile record as a four-year-old of Imin 57.25, will stand his first stud season at John and Pauline Scott’s Poplar Lane Lodge at Ashburton this spring.
He is the latest stallion imported to New Zealand by the Central Standardbred Agency co-directors, Brian Meale and Charlie Hunter, and will command an opening service fee of $9OO.
The winner of $80,411 in stakes, Bill’s Brother retired on a winning note at the Meadowlands track in New
Jersey in April, returning a Imin 58.8 s mile.
By the great Meadow Skipper (Imin 55.25), the sire of over 300 in 2min including 23 in Imin 555, Bill’s Brother is the fifth foal of a former successful free-for-all pacer in Fanny Mite (Imin 59.25) to take a mile record of under Imin 58s.
Fanny Mite, which won 46 races and $190,515 in stakes, is the dam of a top mare in the United States in Luscious Lea (Imin 55.85), while her first foal, Mighty Phantom, time-trialed in Imin 54.6 s and won $261,176 in .stakes. Her other sub Imin 58s foals include Ray Charles (Imin 55.45) and Longgone Bill (Imin 565). Bill’s Brother posesses strains of Adios, Abbedale and Volomite blood, while he descends from the great broodmare, La Paloma, and Her Ladyship (Imin 56.65), a notable dam of sires and top broodmares; He has a pedigree which appeals as a suitable outcross for New Zealand-bred mares.
