Further remand in custody

A new application for bail for a youth facing a charge of attempted murder was declined by Judge Bisphan in the District Court yesterday.

Derek William Ryder aged 18, a technician (Mr P. R. Rutledge) was further remanded in custody to July

He is charged with attempting to murder Peter Thomas Buschman on July 7.

The charge relates to a stabbing incident on a bus at Riccarton.

In his application Mr Rutledge said the complainant had made a recovery and was now out of hospital. If the charge remained it would certainly be defended, he said. “Substantial” sureties were available.

Sergeant W. J. McCormick said that if bail was granted then two sureties and a reporting clause would be sought.
