Fencing of pools
Sir,—l fully support the views of A. F. Doudney (July 13) on the issue of fencing private swimming pools. The responsibility for the supervision of young children lies with the parents and it is up to the them to fence adequately their own properties to ensure the safety of youngsters. Pool owners are not necessarily wealthy. After having saved hard to buy the pool they are often unable to find the extra money, at least in the short term, to erect a fence. Should a family be denied the pleasure of a swimming pool because they are unable to meet the extra cost of a fence? — Yours, etc., (Mrs) L. M. THORNLEY. July 13, 1983.
