Pin-ups cause for sack
NZPA London Council worker who post up sexy pin-ups in their Town Hall offices in London could soon face the sack. Councillors of the Labourcontrolled Inner London Council of Hackney have declared their area a “pornfree zone” and any pictures considered “offensive” could lead to dismissal. Pin-ups will be an offence under the council’s disciplinary code and anyone displaying them could be charged with gross misconduct. The move comes after a decision in April to make Hackney London’s first porn-free area after a proposal from the council’s
women's committee. Councillors believe that if the pictures are considered “offensive to women” the worker responsible can be sacked. Under the porn-free scheme councillors plan to use planning and licensing powers to ban sexist advertisements from councilowned hoardings, prevent news agents from displaying “girlie” magazines, and make life for sex shop owners so tough that they move out. A neighbouring council, Islington, has also voted to ban pin-ups from Town Hall offices because the women’s committee say that they are a form of sexual harassment.
