Anglican rebuke for arms race
PA Wellington Anglicans in Wellington have urged an end to the nuclear arms race. In near-unanimous votes, the 293 delegates at the annual synod of the Anglican diocese of Wellington rated the nuclear arms race one of the most urgent moral demands of this era. They approved a publicity programme for parishes on nuclear war issues. A dele-
gation will also tell the Government that the nuclear arms race is contrary to God’s will and needs to stop. The synod vote supported a similar priority attached to nuclear war, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Robert Runcie, earlier this year. It also endorsed a synod motion in 1976 supporting a nuclear-free zone in the South Pacific.
