P. Shand suspended

Peter Shand, the driver of Hey Byrd in the Kowhai Handicap, was suspended up to and including July 30 at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway on Saturday. Shand was found guilty of causing interference to Alicante, which was checked and broke with 1200 m to run. In the same race, Formal Fella was observed to hang badly over the concluding stages and his driver, Robert Cameron, had difficulty in obtaining a clear passage. Rickie May, the driver of Seduction in the Miro Stakes, was questioned about the breaking of that horse, but was unable to offer any explanation for its actions.
