Improved job schemes
PA Wellington Improvements to schemes to find work for the unemployed were presented to the Government caucus yesterday by the Minister of Labour, Mr Bolger. Mr Bolger would not give details of the proposals to reporters, but said they involved changes to existing
schemes rather than new ideas. The proposals would be made public probably before the end of the month, he said. The Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, said Mr Bolger’s proposals took in ideas from “perhaps one or two others” in the caucus. They were
also based on recommendations of the Government’s committee on employment, chaired by the Under-Secre-tary of Internal Affairs, Mr G. W. Thompson. Mr Bolger said the introduction of youth rates next year would help ease youth unemployment, which was an area of particular concern to the Government.
