Lions player injured

PA Pukekohe staff correspondent The British Lions flanker John O’Driscoll, joined the touring team’s creeping injury list yesterday when he hurt his neck during a training session. O’Driscoll, who was due to play in today’s match against Counties, suffered the injury while practising on a tackling bag and had to return to the team’s hotel for treatment.

The Lions manager, Mr Willie John Mcßride, said the injury appeared to be “just a bump,” although he had not had time to discuss it with team physiotherapist Mr Kevin

Murphy, or Dr Donald McLeod.

A decision on O’Driscoll’s availability for the match would to made today, Mr McBride said.

The Lions lock, Steve Boyle, might play in Wellington next rugby season. The 29-year-old second rower, who works for an English finance company, has been offered a temporary post with a Wellington company which is an affiliate of his firm.

Although Boyle admits that no definite plans yet exist for him to work here, he is “very interested” in the offer.
