Blind man missing
PA Auckland The Auckland police yesterday stepped up their inquiries into the disappearance of a blind man, Mr Bert Smith, aged 50, on Great Barrier Island. Three detectives, including an inspector, flew to the island yesterday to join the
investigation. Mr Smith has not been seen since Wednesday night after an argument with his wife, who arrived home to find their house destroyed by fire. A dinghy is missing from their home, and the police launch Deodar was used in yesterday's search.
