The aircraft had a new set of tyres fitted shortly before 3 p.m. and was towed off the runway which had been blocked because of the accident. It then left shortly before 5 p.m. Six flights by the regional carrier, Air Central, had to be cancelled because of the runway blockage but an afternoon Air New Zealand flight managed to land slightly behind schedule.
