Athletics standards set
PA Wellington Track and field standards for next year’s Los Angeles Olympics have been released. The standards were reached after discussions between the N.Z.A.A.A. selectors — the convener, Barry Hunt, Alan Potts and Graeme McCabe — and the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association selectors, Roy Dutton, Bruce Cameron and Jack Prestney. They reflect N.Z.O.C.G.A. policy that competitors
must have a chance of reaching the semi-final of their event to be selected. They are marginally stiffer over all than the International Amateur Athletic Federation A standards for the world athletic championships in Helsinki next Performances to be considered for selection must be recorded between October 1 and April 1 next year. The N.Z.A.A.A. chairman, lan Boyd, said the standards were a guideline for athletes and achievement of
them did not assure nomination. More than one stand-ard-breaking performance would be necessary for an athlete to be nominated.
