Press Lane gates wanted
The Christchurch Press Company should be urged to install gates at both ends of Press Lane as soon as possible, said the Christchurch City Council’s works and traffic committee yesterday. Such gates could be closed after normal business hours. .* . during a recent meeting
between councillors, the newspaper company, the Fire Service, the police, and the Ministry of Transport, company representatives said they would be prepared to consider placing gates across the lane before redevelopment of their premises. An architect’s plan showed possible future’'<?e-
velopment in Press Lane, including retail shops. Some practical problems had to be overcome before gates could be used, since two other businesses had access rights to the lane.
The special meeting was held to discuss ways to enhance the safety and appearance of Press Lane.
