Gifts to cancer challenge
Two Canterbury businesses and a netball association have responded to the challenge to “Be a sport—fight cancer” by raising more than $lOOO between them.
The Canterbury Netball Association raised $796 from a collection among Saturday-morning players and this money has been sent to the Cancer Society of New Zealand in Wellington.
A further $2OO was received from R. W. Saunders, Ltd, of Christchurch, money wich was given by the staff and company, and proceeds from a jogathon here received from Winstone South Island, Ltd’s, social club.
The money was raised for the Cancer Society’s national “Happening 83,” a sports and recreation effort to raise funds for the care and comfort of cancer patients.
