H.S.O.B. into quarter-finals

A goal in extra time put High School Old Boys into the quarter-finals of the H.W. Smith Trophy national inter-club hockey competition yesterday. Old Boys beat Linwood 10 in the second half of extra time. Chris Tye, the Old Boys left half, scored the goal after dribbling from near the circle, through several tackles, and finally beating the Linwood goalkeeper with a mediocre push. The match, played at Burnham, was even with both sides failing to capitalise on some good build-up play in ordinary time. Old Boys will now play a North Island side in the quarter-finals. Should it win that game there is the possibility it will be in an allChristchurch semi-final. Three of the four teams seeking the other semi-final place in Old Boys’ half of the draw are from Christchurch, including Selwyn, the leader of the Christchurch senior championship.
