Lions manager: ‘No excuses’
The Lions’ management had no reservations in saluting the All Blacks’ third test and series win at Carisbrook on Saturday.
“There can be no excuses for losing at this level,” said Mr Willie John Mcßride, the manager. “We got bogged down in our half and were
under pressure, but the All Blacks took their chances and won.” But, he added, he was pleased with the way' the Lions had responded to the challenge. “It was a difficult day for rugby, but there was a lot of commitment by both
sides.” Mr Jim Telfer, the coach, said he was proud of the manner in which the touring side had played. “But when we tried to get out of our half, Hewson would kick us back. “The day didn’t suit the talents of Rutherford. He
was put there for a purpose, but the weather didn't allow that to develop. “And clearing the ball from the scrum is still a worry for us. Loveridge had pressure on him, too, but he seemed to have more protection from his forwards.”
