Telethon
Sir,—ln reply to J. Boyde (June 27), I feel that he has missed the point of my letter (June 23) which was the need in the first place for an appeal to take care of people who have become victims of our society today. If we allow the violence, the alcohol, the apathy, to continue in our society, then I feel it is a question not of humanity, but of inhumanity towards one another. I am not against the principle of giving to help our neighbour but am very critical of our system that makes a family trust appeal necessary. If the spirit that Telethon engenders was with us all the time, then I’m sure that Telethon would not be necessary. Far better a continuing concern and desire to help all those in distress, and positive action against the degradation that is destroying our society. — Yours, etc., BARRY STEWART. July 1, 1983.
