Poets perform
Nine New Zealand poets will converge on Christchurch tomorrow evening for a poetry reading at the Students’ Union Building at the University of Canterbury. The man behind -the gathering is the university’s writer-in-residence, Murray Edmond. “I wanted to bring together some of the younger voices in New Zealand writing,” he said. Among the poets travelling to Christchurch are three Dunedin residents, John Dickson, Cilla McQueen, and Joanna Paul. Harry Ricketts and lan Wedde are from Wellington, Russell Haley is from Auckland and Keri Hulme comes from Hokitika. The other two poets are Mr Edmond and Michael Harlow of Christchurch Teachers’ College. As well as the joint reading tomorrow, four of the poets will each give readings at Symphony Hall in the Arts Centre on Friday and Saturday evenings. Mr Edmond will act as host at the readings.
