Telethon
Sir, — Much as it pains to criticise an event such as Telethon, it seemed rather a poor show that, after having showered praise on his fellow participants, Ken Ellis was given no acknowledgement of his wonderful efforts throughout the 24 hours. One would have thought that a person of Sir Hamish Hay’s standing and familiarity with similar situations could have made some effort to put forward a vote of thanks to the man who held the Telethon together. Perhaps our personal thanks will go some way to compensate for this anomaly. — Yours, etc., JAN KEMP, PETER T. COOK, PAUL SMITH, MIKE J. NORMAN, TONY SMITH, KATE PERRIN. June 27, 1983. Sir, — All of us must agree that Telethon ’B3 was a wonderful performance. Towards the finish Mr Ken Ellis was very busy thanking all'the people whose efforts made the whole show such a great success. But! Nobody made a point of thanking Ken Ellis who made such a wonderful effort in the key position. So I hasten to say “Thank you very much” to Ken Ellis, and I know that I express the feelings of all the people in the Christchurch region. — Yours, etc., G. B. McLEOD. June 26, 1983.
