Victim carries severed arm
NZPA London A farm worker whose arm was torn off in an accident staggered almost 2km across fields to get help while carrying the severed limb under his other arm. A stockman, Roy Tapping, aged 25, who was described as “quiet and an exceptional chap,” was working alone on a hay baler at a farm in Henton, Oxfordshire, yesterday when his arm became trapped in the machine.
The limb was torn off only centimetres from • his shoulder. Mr Tapping was able to stumble to the farmstead, carrying his severed arm. He was spotted by another farmer who raced off to call an ambulance. The severed limb was put in an ice pack by ambulance men, who rushed Mr Tapping to hospital. Doctors were trying to decide whether the arm could be sewn back on using micro-surgery.
