Jim Cassidy injured
PA Hastings The top Hastings jockey, Jim Cassidy, is injured and has been forced to miss today’s Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie. Cassidy was thrown from Indian Game in trackwork at the Hastings track last Saturday morning. He landed on his head, narrowly missing a concrete post. He felt no ill-effect from the fall at first and was able to carry out his riding engagements at last Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting.
However on Sunday morning he was barely able to move his neck and he is now wearing a neck-brace and undergoing physiotherapy to rectify wrenched muscles at the top of his backbone. Cassidy hopes to take two or three rides at Friday’s Rotorua meeting and be back in full flight for Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting. Cassidy’s rides so far for Hawke’s Bay include Vanity, Tioga Mellay, Indian Game, Master Blaster and Don’t Move.
