A.I.D.S. toll now 1641

NZPA-Reuter New York A.I.D.S. the disease which destroys the body’s defence against infections, has attacked at least 1641 people and killed 644 of them since it was identified two years ago, reported “Time” magazine yesterday. It said that since 1981, doctors had reported an average of 165 new cases a month of A.1.D.5., or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. New York City has reported 732 cases and 284 deaths, followed in incidence by San Francisco and Los Angeles.
