Princess tells of learning to cope

NZPA St John’s The Princess of Wales confessed in conversation yesterday that she has had to grow up quickly to deal with the pressures demanded by her role as wife to the heir of the throne. Although she will only be 22 on Saturday, the Princess has had to acquire a maturity beyond her years to deal with the strain of being in the focus of world attention and future Queen of Britain and the Commonwealth. And she has a particular soft spot for the plight of the sick and disabled. During an intimate and soul-searching conversation with the Premier of Newfoundland, Mr , Brian Peckford, the Princess admitted: “I am finding it very difficult to cope with the pressures of being the Princess of Wales, but I am learning to cope with it. “I have learned a lot in the last few months, particularly the last three or four. I feel I am doing my job better now than I was before.”

Meanwhile, a British newspaper reporter has said that Princess Diana is tired and fighting a brave battle againsj boredom on the Royal tour of Canada. “Compared with her barnstorming visit to Australia and New Zealand, the Canadian tour has just failed to take off,” wrote Harry Arnold from St John’s, Newfoundland, in London’s tabloid “Sun” paper.
