Indoor bowls to Canty
The Canterbury indoor bowls team easily retained the A. S. Paterson Trophy when it faced a challenge from Ashburton at the Kearney’s Road Hall on Saturday. At the half-way stage Canterbury was in front by just six points, but after winning two long fours games Canterbury took charge in the second round and its strength was especially evident in the singles, where it recorded seven wins and a draw. The final score was Canterbury 42, Ashburton 14. Results (Canterbury names first):— Singles.— First round: A. Williamson 8, E. Melton 8; L. McLennan 11, D. Fagan 4; Mrs O. Bate 6, M. Ross McCutcheon, winner of the national Working Men’s Clubs’ singles, replaces Maurice Berkeley and Noel Tomlinson comes in for Ora Bate.
