Rugby ‘untidy stuff’

PA Wellington The international rugby match called off in Suva on Saturday was described by the referee, Mr Colin Gregan, yesterday as “very untidy stuff.” Mr Gregan, of Hamilton, called the match off early in the second half after a wild brawl erupted. A Western Samoan player tore a touch flag from the ground and Mr Gregan was struck with it as the Samoan tried to hit Fijian players. The brawl broke out after

a Fijian player was punched' and kicked by two Samoans. Western Samoa led, 6-0, at the time. The match was the last in a week-long Pacific threenations tournament that also included Tonga. The result stood at 6-0 and Tonga, which will tour New Zealand next month, was declared the tournament winner. Mr Gregan, back home last evening, would not comment on the match. He said he had made reports to the Fijian, Samoan, and New Zealand rugby unions.
