Billiards championship
The defending champion, Dave Meredith, and Ken Giles both scored well over 1000 points in recording easy wins in the quarter-finals of the Canterbury billiards championship last evening. The two accomplished cueists also share the honour of achieving the highest break to date — 134. Giles scored his
in section play, and Meredith in his quarter-final against Sid Baker. Seven century breaks have been made. Quarter-final results were:— Dave Meredith 1558 beat Sid Baker 619; Bill Burney 878 beat Peter de Groot 730; Brian Kirkness 972 beat Tom Yesberg 723; Ken Giles 1364 beat Sid Moffat 802.
