Mac Duffs for clan gathering
Three Auckland persons are likely to represent the New Zealand branch of the Mac Duff Clan Society at a gathering of all clans in Nova Scotia, Canada, next month. The New Zealand branch of the Mac Duff Clan Society was formed about a year ago and now has several hundred members. Liaison officers are being appointed to promote membership in cities and large towns with emphasis being put on social gatherings, historical research, and genealogy. The first annual meeting of the branch was held in April and further national clan gatherings are planned to be held annually, with twice yearly ceilidhs. Ceilidhs are informal social gatherings with singing, dancing, and story telling.
Membership of the clan society is open to all persons of Scottish descent bearing the clan name, or of one of the septs of Clan Mac Duff, or are a descendant of a member. The chairman of the New Zealand branch, Mr M. N. Duff, said in Christchurch yesterday that he thought that about three persons would go from New Zealand to the international gathering of all clans next month. “There will no doubt be others possibly not associated with the cian yet who will be going,” he said. “We hope to have our charter presented at the international gathering and have someone there to accept it,” Mr Duff said. The international gathering will be opened by the Queen.
