Climber hurt near Mueller Hut
Timaru reporter One of a party descending from the Mueller Hut (1850 m in the Mount Cook area soon after midday on Saturday suffered a broken leg while sliding down a snow slope. He is Brian John Sears, aged 24, of Surrey, England. Mr Sears was reported last evening to be in a comfortable condition in Timaru Hospital. A member of the injured man’s party returned to
Mount Cook Village from which Mount Cook National Park headquarters sent in a two-man rescue team. Meanwhile, the weather was closing in. The Timaru police requisitioned a helicopter, which took another four men to the Sealy Tams, below the Mueller Hut, which is on the west of the Sealy Range, to manhandle a stretcher. The injured man was flown to Timaru and taken to hospital.
