NZPA London It was a Downing Street party that had everything . . . except enough sugar? knives, forks, spoons, and dishes. The “Daily Mail” said the embarrassing shortage was discovered as Mrs Thatcher wined and dined 103 Government Ministers and dignitaries at No. 10, a tradition before the opening of Parliament. Fortunately at No. 12, the Ministers’ wives were being entertained by Mrs Wakeham, wife of the new Chief Whip. One of Mrs Thatcher’s guests, Mr Michael Jopling, the former Chief Whip, popped back to his old house to borrow the items.
