MEMBERS OF THE ENGINEERS’ UNION SCOTT PENFOLD, LTD ON TUESDAY, June 7, a meeting of Engineers unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Government’s extension to the wage freeze. We feel It has certainly succeeded as a wage freeze but has certainly not succeeded as a price freeze. Working people’s living standards have surely fallen and the effect on lower Income families has created hardships for this group and must concern all caring people. Last year’s tax concessions benefited mainly the higher paid, the middle order gained a little help, while the lower paid workers gained virtually nothing. We support the Federation of Labour and Trade Unions in their right to negotiate wage standards and we are seriously concerned at the dictatorial attitude of this Goverment and Its lack of humanity for those in real need.
