Aust. win for Nearco Fair

NZPA-Reuter Sydney The Dunedin breeder, Jim Brown, had his Australian mission turned into racing gold when the chestnut colt Neared Fair, finished brilliantly to win the Man O’War Handicap (1500 m at Rosehill on Saturday. Mr Brown made the trip from New Zealand to promote his South Island-based sire, Double Nearco, which he and his son, Trevor, own. Double Nearco, only once out of the money from seven starts in England, is by Northern Dancer, whose stock have won most of the top stakes and classic races on the Continent. “There are two top stallions in the South Island of New Zealand and one of them is my fellow,” Brown said after the race. Double Nearco stands at Mr Brown’s Lucky Sun Stud, 15km from Dunedin.
