Pumas beat Rest of World

NZPA-Reuter Buenos Aires Argentina’s Pumas powered their way to a 2820 victory over a Rest of the World XV in a sparkling rugby match at Buenos Aires on Saturday. The Pumas won by three goals, a try, a drop goal, and a penalty against a goal, two tries, and two penalty goals. The match was organised as a warm-up to the Pumas’ tour of Australia next month and to raise funds for victims of floods in northern Argentina. ment stand-off, Rafael Madero, masterminded a victory which delighted a crowd of 20,000 at Buenos Aires’ Atlanta Soccer Stadium. The visitors were faster and slicker at the back, and the try of the match was contrived by the Australian five-eighths, Mark Ella, from behind his own 25-yard line. He handled the ball three times in a fine movement before a French wing forward, Salas, went over by the post. After a ninth-minute try from a wing three-quarter, Gary Cunningham, of New Zealand, converted by his compatriot, Graham Higginson, the Rest of the World appeared to be in control. Loffreda also kicked a penalty before the interval. The second half produced most of the thrills with Argentinian tries from Madero, the centre, Marcelo Campo, a forward, Andres Covrreges, and a neat drop goal under pressure from Madero.
