Use of lots

Sir,—Recently two buildings were demolished in Hereford Street. We were informed by the news media that the vacant areas would be used in the short-term as a parking area for Post Office vehicles, to reserve parking space on Hereford Street. Unfortunately, as with such bureaucratic monoliths as the Post Office, the hierarchy appear to have failed to reach down to the drivers of the vehicles. The vacant lot is still vacant and the parking space on the street is still in use daily, even retail loading zones. I realise that with such a prolific fleet they appear to have difficulty communicating with them all. But then, isn’t that their business?—Yours, etc., ROY PRICEa June 20, 1983. Williams, replies: “It is confirmed that the site is to be landscaped and developed into a parking area for Post Office vehicles until construction of the new Chief Post Office complex begins. However, before this development is undertaken, site investigation work for the proposed new building is being carried out and no doubt the writer will have noticed the drilling rigs on the site. I can assure the writer that our plans have not been delayed and development of this site will proceed in accordance with my previous news media statements. Tenders for this work will be called shortly.”]
