Survey of music
“New Music Survey,” a quarterly programme surveying new works by New Zealand composers, including comment on the works and excerpts from performances, can be heard on the radio Concert programme, at 8 o’clock tonight. Since 1967 the Wai-Te-Ata Press in Wellington has printed 25 New Zealand compositions in manuscript facsimile with a further issue of five new publications recently released. Together with the Nota Bene Music Publishing Cooperative in Christchurch, they are continuing to build up an archive of New Zealand music which is proving valuable to local musicians. Tonight “New Music Survey” will talk to Douglas Lilburn and Dorothy Buchanan about these publications; include comment and music from a recent Young Composers’ Workshop held in Nelson; and talk to John Rimmer and Jack Body about new works recently premiered.
