Six at the Hillsborough

Radio U will “take over” the Hillsborough Tavern for the next two week-ends. The station is promoting threeband specials there for the next two Friday and Saturday nights. Tomorrow evening, the Clients, They Were Expendable, and Not Really Anything will perform, followed the next night by Balloon d’Essai, Mainly Spaniards, and The World.

These gigs may mark the death throes of the tavern as a regular venue for rock bands. It is believed that the format will change completely later this month.

Indications are that the Gladstone Hotel will shortly reopen its doors to local bands, for the early week days only.

Tomorrow night, there is another Alternative Entertainment Bureau dance at the Caledonian Hall, featuring the Clients, Testcase Mannequins, ECF, and Evasive Action. Admission is $2, alcohol forbidden. The Clients have lost their keyboards player, Catherine Iversen. She plans to form another band. Money troubles have held up the Clients’ single, but expect it next month. They Were Expendable will release their debut single in July too. And to end with Radio U, the station made enough money at the recent charity gigs to pay for the repairs to its aerial, which was blown down in a gale last month.
