Unbeaten volleyball record maintained
Skellerup All Star Canterbury University won both its games over the week-end to maintain its unbeaten record in the southern zone men’s volleyball competition.
Those victories ensure that it will defend its national league champions title later in the year. Cobb and Co. A took the second-placed Christchurch Teachers College to a marathon five sets before going down. The Teachers College team, strengthened by the return of the national representative, Alan Pearce, struggled to match Cobb and Co’s varied attacks and indeed trailed, 13-4, in the deciding fifth set, before rallying to a narrow win. The University women’s team won its top-of-the-table clash against Otago University and looks set to win the league title. Results.—
