Alliance Text, diversifies

PA Dunedin Alliance Textiles, of Dunedin, has strengthened its position in furnishing fabrics by taking a majority holding in a new company, Anthony Fraser Fabrics, Ltd. This wholesaling enterprise has taken over the assets of Anthony Fraser Textiles, Ltd, of Auckland, which was placed in receivership several months ago. Mr A. F. Dunlop, who headed the previous company, is taking a 25 per cent shareholding in the new company and has been appointed managing director. Alliance has subscribed for 75 per cent of the $300,000 capital. “We are getting into a textile area in which we were previously not very strong but one which has

been identified as a growth area,” Mr Farquhar McKenzie, the managing director, said. “We will be adding our managerial ability to Anthony Fraser’s marketing skill. It is one of the top three wholesalers in the field of drapes, curtains and furniture coverings, with sales of several million dollars a year.” The original Anthony Fraser concentrated on imported fabrics but Alliance intends that its own pro-, ducts will have more representation in the product line. Plans are in hand to supply the Auckland company from the Alliance mills in Milton supplying yarn to be woven at Timaru and the Royal Oak mill in Auckland both spinning and weaving for Anthony Fraser.
