Port scenes
Paintings and sketches by lan Kellar will be exhibited at the Windsor Gallery from today until June 22. The subject of the exhibition is Lyttelton. Ships and buildings at the port are depicted in acrylics, oils and black and white sketches.
Lyttelton is a favourite subject of the artist because of its many old and historic buildings and its atmosphere. Mr Kellar, who lives in Franz Josef, has exhibited
at the gallery before. He recently returned from Australia to live and work in New Zealand.
A full-time painter, Mr Kellar hopes to move into “new realism” in the future. “The portrayal of identifiable objects and what you do with them is very important. Paintings must generate thought and observation of subjects we normally take for granted,” the artist said.
