Hayes extends lead
Rod Hayes (Manurewa) has extended his lead on the Adidas national squash circuit to a commanding one of 70 points after his third tournament victory of the series, the Canterbury championships in Christchurch at the week-end. The South African, Carl Koenig, a New Zealand resident for the last year, finished third in the Canterbury championships and has , moved into second place from sixth. He has contested all six of the qualifying tournaments so far. Sumner’s Paul Viggers moved up a place to eighth after being runner-up to Hayes in Christchurch and
another Canterbury player, Mark Crosbie (Burnside), is also in the top 10. The top eight men and women after the 12 qualifying events will contest the Adidas grand finals at Khandallah from August 12 to 14. In the women’s section the talented Hamilton player, Susan Devoy, still has a big lead though she is not contesting the South Island part of the circuit. Joanne Milne (Sumner) is now in second place on the points list in spite of her disappointing performance in the Canterbury championships. The top 10 players are.— Men: R. W. Hayes
