Unlighted cycles
Sir, —Often on week days I do not leave school until 5.30 p.m. because of sport. By that time it is quite dark. Usually cyclists I see have lights on their bicycles. However, many do not, or they are dimly lit. One particular evening we were coming home along Gloucester Street and a boy on his cycle, without lights, was just passing under a street light as we came up behind him. If he had not passed under the street light when he did we would have knocked him off his. bike and injured him quite badly. I think the Ministry of Transport should try to be much stricter with people who ride unlit bikes, otherwise more cyclists will be killed.—Yours etc, MARK SMALE. June 9, 1983.
