National Super.
Sir,—Both major political parties have questioned the country’s ability to afford National Super, and have quoted its cost. They always quote the gross figure and omit the fact that as much as a third could be paid back in tax. This is dishonest, but typical politics. The Young Nationals state that National Super, is not a right as such. Why? We pay tax for it all our working lives. Unable to defend themselves, recipients become, like the unemployed, a political football. Whether it is National’s misleading tactics or a Labour means test, we must always lose. —
Yours, etc., J. C. KING. June 10, 1983.
