Abortion law
Turkey has legalised abortion as part of the Government’s efforts to curb rapid growth in the country’s population, projected to rise to 50 million by 1985 from 44.7 million in 1980. Turkish women now have the right to abortion in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. The law also allows them to be sterilised. Married women seeking abortion or sterilisation will need the consent of their husbands, and girls under age must get the permission of their parents. — Ankara.
