Slides planned for pools
Water-slides may soon be installed at three pools in the Paparua district to attract the public, the possibility of installing slides at. Halswell, Templeton, and Sockburn p o o 1 s having been discussed by the Paparua County Council’s reserves committee. Cr M. I. Corbett said that the suggested slides would not be competing with the complex at Queen Elizabeth II Park, where patrons paid for just half an hour. The slides planned for the local pools, she said, could be used by the public at no extra admission cost. The superintendent of the pools, Mr J. Cousins, said that as yet no plans had been drawn up for the slides, but they would be similar to ones overseas and
in the North Island, with five or six turns in them. “A swimming pool these days cannot just be a swimming pool. You have to have all the extras,” he said. “We are looking for attractions to our facilities, but they will not be as grandiose as Queen Elizabeth II Park.” Mr Cousins was unable to give an estimated cost for the slides, but said that details of the plans and recommendations to the committee would be made before the beginning of the summer season.
The reserves committee will make a decision on the slides after seeing the plans, and in the meantime granted the pools $12,000 for general maintenance costs and improved filtration systems.
