‘Mail-a-bid’ popular
“Mail-a-bid” entry forms for the Christchurch Festival Auction, are being snapped up by bargain seekers. More than 1666 items, with an estimated over-all retail tag of more than $166,666, will come under the hammer at the live auction on June 3. The director of the Arts Centre, Mr Ray Sleeman, said last evening that response to the venture was better than the organisers expected. “People are actually filling out a whole form — even two. Most, people are
hoping for a bargain,” he said. Although it was too early to make a check on the most popular items for sale,
there had been quite a few bids for the Richard Hadlee cricket gear. “In one or two cases the bids have been higher than the retail value placed on them, but other bids have been absurdly low,” said Mr Sleeman. He said the Festival hoped to sell the items for up to 66 per cent of the retail value. The auction will be held at the Theatre Royal.
